Microsurgery Reconstruction

Microsurgery is the name of a procedure performed under the microscope, when tissue is transferred from one part of the body to another. It is an innovative technique used in cancer reconstruction and for the closure of complex wounds.

Dr. Essie Yates performs microsurgical procedures, predominantly DIEP, SIEA, and TRAM flaps for breast cancer reconstruction. In this procedure, the abdominal skin and fat is removed similarly to a tummy tuck. This tissue is transferred together with its blood supply and attached to the chest. The abdomen (donor site) has the appearance of a tummy tuck. The transferred tissue is used to create the new breast. This procedure allows totally natural breast reconstruction without the use of an implant or prosthesis.

Dr. Yates also performs microsurgery for complex wounds and other cancer types. Call one of our convenient locations in Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood, Weston, Boynton Beach, or Naples today at (954) 983-1899 or request an appointment online.
